恽向(1568-1655),明代画家。原名本初,字道生,号香山。武进(今属江苏)人。擅长山水,早年学董源,巨然,以悬肘中锋用画,骨力圆劲,浓墨润湿,纵横淋漓,自成一派,晚年敛笔于倪瓒、黄公望的风格,惜墨如金,挥洒自如,妙合自然。由于他常往来于齐鲁之间,并登临泰山,故笔下册水自然雄浑之气。他曾为周亮公画山水,自题云:“逸品之画,笔似近而远愈甚,似元而有愈甚;其嫩处如金,秀处如铁,所以可贵,未易为俗人道也。”恽向以其精湛的画艺和众多在清初画坛上有重要的地位,对当时及后世山水画的创作产生了深远而广泛的影响,特别是他善于继承传统并能自辟蹊径的艺术实践,引导了一大批画家,恽寿平、王翚,各善盛扬。
